Background
Vineland’s greenhouse tomato breeding initiative focuses on developing new varieties with strong tolerance to diseases prevalent in North America, improved flavour, and uniquely exceptional adaptation to the growing conditional in Ontario and across North America. Selection for the Canadian climate has resulted in a suite of new varieties which yield significantly more fruit than the incumbent European varieties and possess resistance to races to tomato disease found in North America. Paired with biochemical analysis and selection for volatile compounds associated with consumer preferred taste and flavour, Vineland’s tomato varieties are poised to be favourites of growers and consumers alike.
