The Advanced Pathology Lab (APL) is a plant pathology research facility with a higher level of biosecurity than regular production greenhouses or research labs.

  • This facility allows us to safely work with some of the most problematic plant diseases in the horticulture sector, such as pepino mosaic virus, hop latent viroid and Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV). These pathogens pose a high risk to crops because they are highly transmissible and difficult to eradicate.

  • The Advanced Pathology Laboratory includes a high-tech molecular lab for diagnostic testing and 6 controlled environment grow rooms 6 Sq. meters each equipped with lighting, irrigation and climate control.

  • Strict entry procedures and cleaning protocols are in place to contain the plant pathogens inside the Advanced Pathology Laboratory.

Projects

Advanced Pathology Laboratory is designed to host multiple different research experiments at any given time. Projects could include:

Evaluation of the efficacy of disinfectants, (bio)pesticide products or other control mechanisms against some of the most relevant plant diseases.

Evaluation of different breeding lines to pathogens
