Technical Assistants, Research & Development (Ref# JP-35-2025): 4 required
Hourly Rate: $17.60
This position will work primarily within the Plant Responses & the Environment Program and will provide support for the execution of greenhouse, field and lab activities for various internal and contract projects.
Responsibilities & Requirements

- Working closely with applicable R&D staff; greenhouse and field managers; lab staff.
- Performing physical work in field and greenhouse facilities assisting with plant care and experiments.
- Seeding new plant material, transplanting raising, as well as assisting with budding, fertigation, pruning, clipping, suckering, harvesting, seed organization and storage.
- Assisting as needed in active soils lab which may include exposure to dust, dirt and soil odours.
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (B.Sc. or Diploma) in plant or horticultural sciences
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ related experience working in greenhouse, field and lab environments.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Current WHMIS training
- Valid First AID/CPR Certificate an asset.
Farm Crew Member (Student – Agricultural Assistant), (Ref# JP-36-2025): 2 required
Hourly Rate: $17.60
This seasonal position is responsible for assisting in the care and maintenance in preparing, maintaining, and harvesting fruit and vegetable crops of all field grown groups at Vineland. The position will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of horticultural crops with responsibilities including, but not limited to, operation and maintenance of equipment, trellising, pruning, crop load management, nursery tree propagation and irrigation.

- Preparing plant materials to be used
- Implementing prescribed scheduling of cultivation, planting, irrigation activities for optimal effectiveness
- Operating a full and diverse line of farm equipment to plant, fertilize, mow, disk, cultivate
- Operating tractors and associated equipment such as mowers, tillers, cultivators, planters, and spreaders
- Selecting, in consultation with the Farm Manager, the best product and application timing/method for identified problems, accounting for the many factors (environmental, soil, crop) that may impact product performance
- Providing assistance for harvest and collection of crops for scientific programs.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- One (1) year related experience
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
Grounds Crew Member (Student – Grounds Assistant) (Ref# JP-37-2025): 1 required
Hourly Rate: $17.60
This seasonal position is responsible for assisting with duties required for the maintenance of the campus grounds.
Responsibilities & Requirements
Responsibilities
- Cutting lawns using mowers and ensuring grass is mowed evenly; trimming shrubs and hedges; edging walks and curbs and other related grounds maintenance utilizing proper safety techniques.
- Performing and/or assisting in building new flower beds and maintaining existing garden beds, including weeding and watering plants.
- Performing and/or assisting in spreading fertilizer, soil, mulch, manure, and seed as required.
- Performing other duties as may be assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Previous landscape and equipment experience preferred.
