The sweet smell of sweet potato success
Vineland’s Radiance is the first sweet potato variety developed for Canadian growing conditions. Red-skinned with deep orange flesh, it gets high consumer marks for firmness, sweetness and texture.
It matures quickly and can be harvested 11 to 20 days earlier. It also features yields at least 20 per cent higher. Around 40 Canadian growers in 6 provinces are already producing Radiance, with land under cultivation expected to reach 1,000 acres by the end of the decade.
Millions of slips will be needed annually to meet this demand but Canada doesn’t have a domestic slip propagation industry. So Vineland is building a cross-Canada network of slip producers and providing valuable growing guidance along with best practices and agronomic data.
