Vineland took part in the Canadian Greenhouse Conference 2024
The Canadian Greenhouse Conference is Canada’s top event for commercial greenhouse flower, vegetable, cannabis, berry and nursery growers. The conference took place October 8 and 9, 2024 in Niagara Falls and focused on the theme “Harvesting Resilience”.
Vineland saw a record number of researchers invited to be guest speakers during the two-day event.
Wednesday, October 8, 2024:
- Rose Buitenhuis – Research on Thrips parvispinus. What do we know about managing this invasive pest?
- Alexandra Grygorczyk – Landfill diversion of greenhouse crop residues: Current options, opportunities and challenges
- Jason Henry – Alternative growing media for floriculture production
- Rhoda deJonge – How to work with alternative growing media
Ashley Summerfield, Rose Buitenhuis together with Sahah Jandricic, Cara McCreary (both OMAFA) and Rose Labbé (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) also hosted a two-hour hands-on thrips identification workshop for growers and IPM practitioners on how to correctly identify thrips species in greenhouse crops.
Thursday, October 9, 2024:

- Rose Buitenhuis – How to deal with an increasing number of thrips species: Onion thrips
Vineland also exhibited at the event, showcasing two of our innovation programs – Consumer, Sensory & Market Insights and Biological Crop Protection. For the second year, we took part in the Greenhouse Technology Network’s five-booth display and promoted Vineland’s fee-for-service opportunities.
