A proprietary new temperature controlled drying room facility that optimally manages humidity and air flow can produce superior fruit for appassimento-style wine production and increase competitiveness for Canadian wineries. VINELAND, Ontario - Rennie Estate Winery and Angels Gate Winery have partnered with Vineland Research and Innovation Centre to pioneer the development of a locally-adapted, high-efficiency technique for drying grapes in the appassimento style.

University of Guelph scientists led by Prof. Jayasankar Subramanian will work with South Asian colleagues to develop innovative packaging using state-of-the-art nanotechnology to reduce post-harvest losses in mangoes, a vital fruit crop in South Asia. The $2.3 million project, announced today by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), will improve livelihoods for nearly one-third of the populations of India and Sri Lanka, mostly small-scale farmers.

New technology at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre will help decode consumer choices and grow market share for Canadian products VINELAND, Ontario - Increasingly used for consumer research in non-agricultural sectors and a variety of disciplines and analyses, eye tracking technology is proving its usefulness at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) with horticulture products. Dr. Isabelle Lesschaeve, Research Director, Consumer Insights and Product Innovation and Dr. Ben Campbell, Horticultural Economist are breaking new ground in the application of eye tracking technology to products such as ornamental plants, flowers, wine, fruit and vegetables.

The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., Member of Parliament for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), accompanied by Dean Allison, Member of Parliament for Niagara West-Glanbrook, made the announcement today.

Well-respected researcher Dr. Youbin Zheng begins immediately as the Vineland/University of Guelph Chair in Environmental Horticulture. This position will improve collaboration across Canadian research networks and speed access to new technologies and innovations for industry.
