General Outline: 

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for an Advisor - Business Development. You will be joining a highly-skilled research team, with oversight from an independent Board of Directors, engagement from an international Science Advisory Committee and collaboration with more than 160 global partners.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

In order to effectively bring new technologies and varieties to market, and create tangible economic value from research and development activities, effective business strategies are critical. This position will be part of the Business Development team, primarily supporting Vineland’s Applied Genomics and trait development activities.

From project conception through to technology transfer to industry partners, you will be engaged in understanding and quantifying the opportunities presented, fostering relationships with research and industry partners, valuing technologies, and supporting the launch of new technologies in Canada and around the world.

The person who joins this team does not necessarily require a lot of experience, but must possess the right knowledge, skill set and attitude to grow into a critical member of the Vineland team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Market analysis for new and existing opportunities
  • Valuation of novel traits and technologies
  • Drafting and managing agreements and contracts
  • Patent searching and support for IP strategy
  • Partner and stakeholder management

Qualifications: 

  • B.Sc. in life sciences, with specific experience in molecular biology and agricultural/plant sciences being a significant asset
  • Experience working in a research environment, whether it be on the science or the business side
  • A combination of relevant science and business work experience is preferred
  • Must be able to exemplify Vineland’s set of core values (Excellence, Integrity, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Openness, Collaborative Approach, Impact-Driven)

The Business Development team at Vineland is critical to the success of Vineland’s mandate to deliver economic impact to the Canadian horticulture sector. The qualifications and skills listed above are important, but so too are the personal attributes that will ensure your success at and for Vineland. Some additional experience or abilities that are considered significant assets include:

  • A combination of relevant science and business work experience is preferred
  • A business degree or certificate is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian agriculture sector; knowledge of horticulture is a further asset
